Charity Round-Up
By Jared Newell
It’s that time of the year for seniors, the end is finally in sight! However, for many the end can’t be reached due to lack of community service hours. It is an LSHS graduation requirement to turn in at least 10 hours of community service. Here’s a quick round-up of some charities that could really use some help from senior volunteers!
The Lee’s Summit Animal Shelter
The local animal shelter is always looking for help with walking dogs, petting cats and cleaning cages! They offer both morning shifts and shifts right after school. This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy minimal human interaction and love animals!
Hope House
Hope house is an amazing organization for women and children affected by domestic violence. It offers therapy and housing as well as a safe place. Hope house is always needing people to come in and help with special events as well as helping with the children! Hope house is a unique way to volunteer and is sure to fill your heart with a lot of joy.
Harvesters
A favorite to volunteer for in the KC area, Harvesters is a very easy yet fulfilling way to get hours! Harvesters is a community food organization that supplies shelters and food banks. Harvesters needs a lot of volunteers each day to help with sorting food and such.
While volunteering is required by the school, it is also an amazing way to help the community and touch the lives of many! Make sure to get those hours in seniors!
