Last Thursday Lee’s Summit highschool tigers girls tennis had a tight match against the
Grain Valley Eagles. They played at Grain Valley but the Tigers still pulled out the win without home field advantage.
Neema Kimaku secured the Tigers win with her match putting the Tigers up 5-4 in the varsity matches. The Tigers and Eagles are both great competitors and had a close match. Tigers only won 1 out of 3 of their doubles matches but still managed to come back and win the majority of their singles.
Although the Tigers got down in the beginning, what brought them back up was their outstanding singles play. Neema Kimaku won singles 8-2, Lucy Cooper won 8-4, Berkely Hurst won 8-5, and Olivia Wilmes won 8-3. They all played long tough matches and earned their wins.
The Eagles had a record of 17-4 , but after this match it is 17-5. The Tigers record was 4-3, and now is 5-3. These teams both have had a great season so far and will continue to work hard.
Kaylee Rustice has had an incredible season so far. She has a great record and has won the majority of her matches this season. Kaylee performs very well in doubles, but singles is where she excels the most. She blows her opponents away with her hard serve and her consistency in all her shots.
All of these players work very hard and have lots of talent, but the real star of the show is their coach. Coach Ashleigh Grumke, has led these girls to so many wins and has improved their game by a lot. She always stays positive and brings them up when we’re down, but also disciplines us when necessary and pushes us to always be our best.
Grain Valley and Lees Summit had a great battle this week. Both of these teams have great work ethic and always try their best to compete. The Tigers are nearing the end of their season and taking on districts Friday October 11th at North High School.
