Breast Cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women in the United States will get breast cancer at some point in their life. That is why we use the month of October to raise awareness and teach the importance of early detection of Breast Cancer. One way you can help contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to do a charity walk. On Saturday October 7th, 2017 the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was held in Kansas City and raised $361,525.33 towards research to advance the technology to continue working towards a cure. Since the race has come and gone and we still have half of October left another way to get involved is to wear pink. Wearing pink shows that you care about those people that have battled and are currently battling breast cancer. It is such a simple task and spreads awareness in the community. The LSHS Tigers football team takes part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink uniforms every game in October. The team also takes part in a special program called “Siege the Cure” to help spread awareness and fundraise for St. Jude Hospital for Children’s Cancer. Each player is assigned someone that has been affected by breast cancer and the players dedicate their game to that person. The students of LSHS also get involved and make the stands a sea of pink in the month of October. Don’t forget to wear pink this month and spread awareness.
